Duties & Responsibilities
- Transcribe and annotate Hong Kong Cantonese speech data according to detailed guidelines.
- Build and maintain a linguistic corpus through data organisation and quality checks.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure consistency and accuracy in annotation work.
- Design, program, and set up behavioral experiments such as reaction-time tasks and eye-tracking.
- Prepare experimental materials and stimuli in Hong Kong Cantonese.
- Conduct pilot testing, troubleshoot experimental scripts, and document procedures.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Master's or Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, Psychology, Cognitive Science, or related fields.
- Native speaker of Cantonese with demonstrated ability to work carefully and with high precision.
- Strong organisational and communication skills; ability to work independently and in teams.
- For position 1: Previous experience with linguistic data annotation/transcription and competence with software tools (Excel, ELAN, Praat, or similar).
- For position 2: Detail-oriented approach to stimulus preparation; hands-on experience with experimental software (PsychoPy, PCIbex, or similar) is highly desirable.
- Postgraduate students with expertise in variationist sociolinguistics or psycholinguistics preferred.
Appointment
- Part-time; 12-month contract from 1 December 2026.
