Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and support design of automated robotic systems for aircraft surface cleaning with 75% reduction in lead time.
Design and prototype autonomous crawlers with variable-radius suction adhesion technology.
Contribute to advanced washing systems with closed-loop water recovery achieving over 90% recycling.
Assist in hyperspectral imaging and AI model development for dirt classification and inspection.
Validate robotic path generation using 3D aircraft models and digital twin integration.
Implement sustainability strategies to minimize consumables and optimize energy usage.

Postdoctoral Fellow: doctoral degree with no more than 5 years post-qualification experience; Research Associate: master's degree or good honours degree with 3 years relevant work experience; Research Assistant: honours degree with research experience being advantageous.
Interest in aviation, non-destructive inspection, robotics, automation, data analytics, and sustainability.
Strong command of written and spoken English.
Background in robotics, mechatronics, or mechanical systems design (beneficial).
Experience with non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic, thermography, or eddy current (beneficial).
Familiarity with AI/machine learning for defect detection or image analysis (beneficial).

Four posts (2 Postdoctoral Fellow, 2 Research Associate/Research Assistant), each for 12 months.
