Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide expert clinical guidance on veterinary cases, surgical protocols, and anesthesia programs.
  • Supervise and mentor the veterinary team of one Senior Veterinarian and two Veterinarians II.
  • Oversee preventative medicine and health surveillance programs for research animal facilities.
  • Manage daily workflows and deployment of technical and husbandry staff.
  • Enforce compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and relevant Hong Kong legislation.
  • Monitor performance metrics and implement operational improvements.
  • Direct preparations for 2028/29 AAALAC International accreditation submission.
  • Lead the Post-Approval Monitoring program to verify protocol compliance.
  • Coordinate regulatory inspections and compliance reviews.
  • Deputise for the Director on committees, planning sessions, and stakeholder consultations.
  • Lead emergency preparedness protocols and biosecurity incident investigations.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, facility design, and long-term sustainability.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline plus minimum 15 years of post-qualification administrative and operational experience.
  • Veterinary qualification registrable in Hong Kong with specialisation or experience in laboratory animal medicine (highly preferable).
  • Documented continuing professional development in laboratory animal science and welfare standards.
  • Proven managerial and supervisory experience in a laboratory animal facility or regulated biomedical research environment.
  • Excellent administrative, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Practical familiarity with AAALAC accreditation framework (highly advantageous).

Appointment

  • Contract — 2 years, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
