Duties & Responsibilities

Develop theory-guided cue inventories, codebooks and annotation protocols for multimodal analysis.
Conduct multimodal discourse analysis and social semiotic analysis of digital platform communication.
Design and undertake interviews, focus groups, observations and user-centred studies.
Analyse interactions among written language, speech, image, video, gesture and interface design.
Produce publications, reports and conference presentations while contributing to grant development and supervising research assistants.

Doctorate in applied linguistics, communication, discourse studies, media studies, anthropology, sociology or related field.
Demonstrated expertise in social semiotics, multimodal discourse analysis and qualitative ethnographic methods with strong publication record.
Experience analysing multilingual and multimodal platform data and building systematic codebooks.
Strong qualitative research design, data management and research ethics skills.
Excellent written and spoken English with ability to communicate across disciplines; competence in Chinese or other relevant languages preferred.
